ICE is one of the earliest technology companies to call the Columbia River Gorge home. The vision for ICE was to apply advanced composite technology from the aerospace industry to the design and manufacture of industrial and consumer products.
"We solve problems that others are afraid to tackle" -Steve Maier- President/CEO
When asked “Why the Gorge”, Steve Maier responds, “Why Not!?” Steve originally lived and worked in Indianapolis, doing an hour commute to his engineering job at a major auto manufacturer, working 50+ hours a week, making good money, and absolutely hating life. In 1987 Steve visited the Gorge and recognized it was the perfect place to start a company and enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle. Rent was cheap, workers plentiful, incredible lifestyle, and only an hour drive from the Portland Airport, a no-brainer.
In the early 1990’s the first major analog cell phone networks were being developed, and ICE developed manufacturing technology that allowed for cost effective production of thousands of broadcast tower tubes per week. Steve Maier, who windsurfed in the Gorge for recreation, was also producing windsurfing masts for the local market at the same time. The mast sales created easy cash flow for ICE due to the location in one of the premier windsurfing locations in the world, the Columbia River Gorge.
An ICE made “NoLimitz” mast was the first product sold by ICE, only by a few weeks! www.nolimitz.com
